“This Song Is For Everybody”
HipHopDx Premiere
2017 was a stellar year for “BASSGOD” Brady
Watt. He traveled the world with DJ
Premier as a member of his The Badder Band and joined Preem for a monumental NPR Tiny
Desk Performance (the first such ever performance by a DJ), announced his signing
to Premier’s TTT (To The Top) imprint and premiered new music with XXL, Uproxx,
Mass Appeal, Billboard and Okayplayer. Brady’s also worked with a diverse group
of artists as well; including Jay Electronica, G-Eazy, 2 Chainz, Joey Bada$$,
Rick Ross and Curren$y.
Brady Watt has already had
a phenomenal 2018 and his arrow keeps pointing up. He recently headlining gigs
at the legendary Blue Note in NYC and performed at LA’s famed Low End Theory
club (which has been a launch pad for artists such as Daddy Kev, Flying Lotus
and many others), Brady was also featured on PRhyme 2’s (DJ Premier
& Royce 5’9’s) new project (appearing on the albums closing track “Gotta
Love It” which also featured Cee-Lo) which reached #1 on the iTunes Hip-Hop
Chart earlier this year.
After a recent premiere of
his single “Black & White” with Billboard and his most recent single “BEEN
DOWN,” Brady returns with “MÁS”; which was premiered today by HipHopDX, a
collaborative effort alongside Spencer Ludwig, Randy Class and Dru Oliver (known for his work with PnB Rock, SZA,
Kehlani & Fetty Wap) who returns to display his undeniable chemistry with
Brady (Dru also appeared on “BEEN DOWN” as well).
Already known for his diversity and ability
to cater and blend his sound to any genre and artist he works with, Brady’s
diversity is on full display with “MÁS,” as the tracks worldly hue and Latin
horns transports you to the stoops of Harlem on a hot and humid summer NYC day. Suddenly, the live atmosphere of the block
party becomes secondary; someone catches your attention, you are instantly
hypnotized and on the chase. All the
while, all you can think about is that you want “MÁS” (More)!
“MÁS
is a track a long time in the making. As a producer and composer I’m always
coming up with chord changes and melodies. Some stay with me for years before
they get used” Brady commented to HipHopDx.
“These chord changes and melody struck me while playing guitar about
five years ago and remained upstairs until January 2018. I finally built
out the beat and loved it, though I was not yet sure what to do with it.
I met
Spencer Ludwig at a party. We turned up crazy that night and became fast friends.
He came to my studio in Harlem about a week later and brought two up and coming
songwriters/artists Dru Oliver and Randy Class with him to see what happened if
we all got in a room together. The beat for ‘MÁS’ was the first one I hit play
on. They started writing immediately!
Randy, who
is of Dominican lineage and from the South Bronx hopped right into writing
lyrics in Spanish, I was like “woooah!.” I didn’t even think of that, though
the beat has a Latin feel. My whole career is based off collaboration and
instinct so I just rolled with it.
It all
happened so organically and since that session we’ve become tight and been
doing work together all summer. I moved out to LA for the winter to work and actually
ended up doing a bunch of sessions with Dr. Dre, pulling all nighters and stuff
(Utter craziness). I spent a lot of time mixing “MÁS” out West, (definitely
with some vibes I picked up from the Doctor, who in my opinion is the best mix
engineer of all time).”
