New Exclusive Interview With The Lovely QT Jazz

New Exclusive Interview With The Lovely QT Jazz

1. How did you come up with the name "QT Jazz" and what does it mean to you?

The name QT Jazz actually was a childhood name because I was in a group called "QT Possie". We were the "Qute and Talented Possie." The group consisted of my 7 year-old self and my best friend, Zonnique. She later went on to do another group called OMG Girlz and following her solo career. As far as the name "QT Jazz," it just STUCK!  As I continued preforming by myself, some people came to recognize me as "QT". It's very youthful in my opinion, but it doesn't necessarily bother me!

2. If you had to speak on the type of music that you create, how would you speak on it and how would you describe it?

I always felt like that is the hardest question to answer because honestly the music I make is just 100% ME! And that consists of a whole lot. However, if I was to give it a try I would say, "If you were playing Pandora, other artists you would hear along with me would be Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani, and Aaliyah. They all have unique voices that stick out as their very own over this melodic pop, "makes you want to dance", beat with R&B bottoms that everyone can sing along to!"

3. You just dropped a record called "Faded Royalty." What is the concept behind this record?

The concept for Faded Royalty was an idea I had two years ago when I was interviewing for Sprite. We were doing a program called Sprite POUR where we highlighted artists, painters, designers, etc., on how they influenced their urban reality. When we were in New York, I interviewed this company called Faded Royalty. They sold hats, letterman's jacket's, T-shirts, and it was all so super cool! When I asked them what the name Faded Royalty meant they told me a story about how when a king has two sons his oldest inherits everything, and his youngest is like faded royalty. He gets all the benefits from being in the kingdom, but he doesn't have the pressure of becoming king. When I heard that story I thought "Oh! that's me all day!" I told him I was going to make a song about it and two years later we had Faded Royalty. They heard it, and they loved it so much they sent some merchandise to me when I shot my music video for the song.

4. How long did it take to record "Faded Royalty" and how did the song come about?

The process of recording Faded Royalty was actually quick. Once I heard the track it took me about two days to gather all my words because I had already had the idea of what I wanted the song and sound to say.

5. "Faded Royalty" was produced by Samir. How was the process of working with him and do you guys have other music?

Ironically, I've never met Samir! We were put in contact with each other through mutual friends! He's in LA, and we've had many conversations over the phone. When he heardFaded Royalty he flat out told me, "I think you got one"! I fell in love with the song and so did he!

6. What is the hardest thing in life you had to overcome and how did you overcome it?

I think the hardest thing I've had to overcome just recently was the concept of forgiveness and being/feeling sorry. To a degree it's necessary but also sometimes you owe it to yourself to not feel sorry. Sometimes you have to be you unapologetically and that's OK. #SorryNotSorry! You can figure out your full potential by just being fully you! That's whatFaded Royalty is about! Just figuring it out because at the end of the day you know you might not have it all together, but you know you're royalty and you know your worth.

7. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years, within music and buiness?

In the next five years, I see myself touring with my own music and also putting out a featured clothing line. I absolutely love fashion, and my mom used to do Mardi Gras .So, she designs a lot of the outfits I wear in my videos and for my shows!
